What To Do In Trieste
February 7, 2009
Little known by many of Italy’s visitors, the first concern visitors will have about Trieste is that there may not be much to do. That is largely a false assumption, though, as the city is laden with its own charms.
Situated at the north eastern part of the country near the border to Slovenia, it fuses influences from both Central Europe as well as nearby Venice, featuring grandly classical buildings lined across broad streets. Stylish in a unique way, it provides a great escape from the crowded bustle (and exorbitant costs) of other European cities during busy seasons.
Visitors will need to make their way to one of the famed local cafes and enjoy a hit of espresso with local-specialty cakes for a much-needed lift. Fueled up, you can make your way out to the major attractions down south, away from the urbanized confines of the city. Highly recommended are trips to the impressive15th century Castle of Miramare and the astonishing cave of Grotto Gigante, among other attractions.
