Nightlife In Trieste
January 25, 2012
If you’re looking for fun on your visit to Trieste you will not be disappointed. I’m not going to give you a long list of names of places to go as it is far better to “seek and find” your best bar or club . Do you want to dance all night or just have a drink with your buddies? It’s all here in Trieste!
In summer some clubs use the outdoor area which is great for catching some cooler air after a day of hot sun. There is a particularly good one in the seaside area which has a fountain on the terrace and seating around it. This one is a favourite with students.
If you like to dance all night go to the Passo di Piazza follow the music which is a mix of Italian hits and international music to dance to and sometimes they have guest DJ’s. In some places often the partying goes on until dawn!! There is one such club which opens early and goes on and on all night. You can find themed nights with a Latin flavour, a guest DJ and live sets.
You can find jazz clubs or cabarets, concerts, discos and really good local musicians. Ever aware of the noise level at night some of the best spots are down by the sea and offer terrific parties at their venues. For a sample of local talent there is a club which hosts all different styles of music. Trieste has really great nightlife!

Trieste Airport Information
June 7, 2009
You can find Trieste airport in Ronchi dei Legionari just beside the city itself. A good number of international carriers serve it but the number of flights is very limited. Most people visit this city for its sumptuous cuisine and intriguing history. Aside from that, tourists also enjoy visiting historical places and breathtaking attractions. However, before you can do that, you need to rent a car first. Trieste car hire can give you the best services you need if you want to take advantage of this scenic city.
Trieste airport offers quite a handful of facilities. They have small shops and services that you can find on the ground floor such as bookshops, bars, restaurants and of course Trieste car hire services. It also offers free wireless internet (Wi-Fi) in public parts of the airport. This can be very convenient for those who are doing their last minute jobs before plunging into the rich culture and history of Trieste. You can usually find a line for Trieste car hire in the terminal building and there is a small taxi stand outside the airport. For your own convenience, you can avail the services of a Trieste car hire instead in order to save time and money.

What To Do In Trieste
February 7, 2009
Little known by many of Italy’s visitors, the first concern visitors will have about Trieste is that there may not be much to do. That is largely a false assumption, though, as the city is laden with its own charms.
Situated at the north eastern part of the country near the border to Slovenia, it fuses influences from both Central Europe as well as nearby Venice, featuring grandly classical buildings lined across broad streets. Stylish in a unique way, it provides a great escape from the crowded bustle (and exorbitant costs) of other European cities during busy seasons.
Visitors will need to make their way to one of the famed local cafes and enjoy a hit of espresso with local-specialty cakes for a much-needed lift. Fueled up, you can make your way out to the major attractions down south, away from the urbanized confines of the city. Highly recommended are trips to the impressive15th century Castle of Miramare and the astonishing cave of Grotto Gigante, among other attractions.

Trieste’s Castello di Marimare
January 20, 2009
Miramare Caslte was built in the 19th century for Austrian Archduke Maximilian. It is situated on the gulf of Trieste, near to the city of Trieste in northeastern Italy.
Archduke Maximilian commissioned designer Carl Junker to build the castle and the construction lasted 4 years from 1856 to 1860. The Archduke himself designed the seashore grounds (54 acres in size) and there is also a wonderful cliff-side giving extensive views of the Adriatic Sea. Within these grounds there are tropical species of tree and plants which survive due to the sea air and warm climate in Trieste.
The Archduke had much experience with the architectural styles of Austria, England and Germany to which he applied to the design of the castle. Furnishings and decorations were completed by Franz Hofmann, who was a local from the city of Trieste.
The castle represents what life would have been like in the mid-19th century as most of its characteristics have remained intact. The Archduke’s presence is seen in every room throughout. This is most prevalant in the magnificent Throne Room – wonderful paneling on the ceiling and walls.
Interestingly, the interior was work was only completed after the Archduke has left Trieste to go to Mexico, where he was appointed Emperor. Castello di Miramare is well worth a visit if you decide to come to Trieste for a break.

Trieste Airport Information
September 14, 2008
Trieste Airport is officially called Aeroporto Friuli-Venezia Giulia, named after the Italian region in which it is located. The airport is also sometimes known as Ronchi dei Legionari after the immediate locality. Its IATA code is TRS. Trieste is a handy airport for visiting this north-eastern corner of Italy, or for travelling into Slovenia. Since Ryanair flights from London Stansted to Trieste are usually cheap, it’s an alternative to the area’s more popular airports like Venice and Verona, and makes a good budget start or end to a travelling holiday. You may end up here by chance, as we did once, since weather conditions can deteriorate in this foggy part of Italy, and Ryanair sometimes divert flights between their north-eastern airports of Venice Treviso, Verona Brescia and Trieste. Trieste is worth a visit in its own right, though, perhaps as part of a longer tour.
The airport has an empty and dated feel to it – aided by dusty roped-off artworks – but it’s reasonably smart and has seemed efficient on our two visits. There aren’t many flights – little more than a few internal flights to Rome and Milan, and a handful of international flights including Ryanair’s London Stansted flights.
In the airport
There’s a small selection of shops and services on the ground floor, on a long hall connecting the arrival and departure areas. These include a small gift shop selling books and newspapers, and a bar with drinks and snacks. A fuller range of food and drink is available up an escalator, in a first floor area with views over the empty tarmac and runway. This is the nicest place to sit, and there is another bar up here as well as a self-service restaurant (open only at mealtimes). A pay wireless internet (wi-fi) service covers these public parts of the terminal building.
Once you’ve passed the security controls things become less comfortable. On our last visit (winter 2007) there was just a small duty-free shop. The only refreshments were chocolate bars or drinks from a machine. There was also a shortage of seats.
Arrivals
Travelling onwards from the airport is happily straightforward. There are the usual car-hire desks in the terminal building, a small taxi-rank outside, and a reasonable range of public transport options.
A number of buses serve the airport, with a row of stops to the right as you leave the terminal building. A board with timetable information is helpfully displayed opposite the arrivals gate, alongside an automatic ticket machine. Tickets should be bought before you board buses (this is normal in Italy), although you may be able to buy them at a greater cost from the driver. Bus tickets are also on sale at the airport’s Post Office, to the left along the terminal’s little ‘mall’. Read on for more information on bus destinations and timetables.
Travel into Trieste
If you’re travelling to or from Trieste itself, 20 miles away, the easiest way to travel is to take the number 51 bus which runs along near the coast to Trieste bus station (which is alongside the railway station). A single ticket costs €3, buses are generally half-hourly on weekdays, and the journey takes approximately 50 minutes. Look out for Castello Miramare on your right as you journey along the coast.
To and from Venice and the Veneto
The airport lies between Venice and Trieste – the nearest station on this line is Monfalcone, 3 miles away. Train tickets between Venice and Monfalcone cost less than eight euros and the journey takes around an hour and a half. A local bus service, the number 10, connects Monfalcone station with the airport. You can buy tickets from the news-stand in the railway station; the bus stop is on the far side of the road. It runs roughly every 20-25 minutes and the journey takes around 20 minutes; tickets cost approximately 1 euro. There is also a bar opposite the station where you can get a hot drink and sandwiches.
More public transport options
Local buses are run by APT Gorizia: see our links panel for the latest airport timetables in pdf format, which at the time of writing you can download by clicking on “Scarica PDF linee aeroporto”. As well as the 51 to Trieste and the urban bus 10 to Monfalcone, they also operate services to Gorizia (bus number 1),
